As an active member of both the Colorado chapters of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association), Derek plays a pivotal role in shaping industry standards. His involvement in committees like the Professional Development Committee with ASID and the Peak Awards Committee with the NKBA exemplifies his commitment to continual learning and adherence to evolving design codes and standards.

Further extending his passion for design, Derek contributes to the broader design community through education. He teaches Kitchen and Bath design at Arapahoe Community College, a notable institution with a robust interior design program, from which he is also an alumnus. This role not only reflects Derek's desire to give back but also showcases his dedication to nurturing the next generation of designers.
